                           LOVE IS NOT JUST FOR THE YOUNG

On the same day that the BBC reported  French President Emmanuel Macron had been "slapped in the face on an official visit to the south-east of France" and the UN court had rejected "Mladic genocide appeal"  the New York Times carried a story about Wedding Bells.




Joy Morrow-Nulton and John Shults Jr. celebrated their wedding! The article (published on June 7, 2021) is written by Tammy La Gorce and accompanied by a photograph taken by Lauren Lancaster.

I had been waiting for the story. Ever since I read about the romance that began on May 14, 2019 between the two 95 year olds who had "both been widowed twice after 60-plus years of marriage" I wanted to hear about their wedding.

"I hope I can make it to 100 so we can have five years together," Joy said just after the wedding to Mr. Shults in Ulster , N.Y. "He's a delight to be with." They were both born in May 1926, both have been widowed twice and both lived alone.

Perhaps the most touching part of the article, for me, was where the pastor was brought to tears as he performed the wedding ceremony on May 22, 2021. Brought to tears ? Why? After all, a wedding is supposed to be a very happy occasion. 

So why did the pastor choke up? 

The pastor was Pete Shults, John's son! When he heard his 95 year-old father say the words :"Till death us do part" his emotions got the better of him!

The ceremony was at Cross Point Fellowship Baptist Church (where Pete or Mr. Schults 111) is Pastor. The bride wore "a bright pink satin blouse" as part of her outfit, while Mr. Shults "donned crisp linen pants and a navy blazer."

"Nobody starts life at 95, but we did," the bride said during the reception held at the Robert Post Park in Ulster, N.Y.

"I'm not lonely anymore," her new husband responded.
