The Good Man saves the child in the road! Luke Dufrene #argument #quarrel #domestic #violence #vehicle #louisiana #child
“I
DID WHAT ANY GOOD HUMAN WOULD DO.”
It started with an argument, then it became a quarrel. Next
it morphed into domestic violence. Domestic violence in a moving vehicle. Not a
good scene! Not at all!
The 27 year old man became angrier. He was so angry that
he stopped the vehicle walked around to the passenger side and kept hitting the
woman in her head. The woman screamed in pain as she struggled to free herself.
She ran onto the road.
The man returned to the driver’s seat and drove west on
US 90 – in the woman’s SUV.
But there was a crying child in the back of the SUV – the
woman’s child. The noise and screams had upset the little one so much that he
struggled to get out of his car seat.
The child’s crying irritated the man. It made him even
more angry. His eyes searched the median along the road. He stopped the SUV,
went to the back of the vehicle, and detached the car seat.
What was he doing?
He took the car seat from vehicle and, with the crying child
still strapped in it, placed the whole thing on the shoulder of the road.
Then he drove off! Quickly! He went west on US 90.
The distraught woman had run after the moving vehicle,
hoping to find assistance. That was her child in the back of the SUV. She saw when
the SUV stopped “about a mile away” but she had no idea what had happened.
But there was someone else who saw what had
happened.
Twenty-three year old Luke Dufrene “saw something
disturbing as he drove on his way to work at the chemical plant in Luling.” Dan
Copp writes in Houma Today..
“I was travelling to Luling for work because I work at
the chemical plant. And I seen a Durango in the median dropping a baby off and
I looked back, and he took off leaving the child there, so I flipped a U-turn
in the grass to get to the baby,” Luke said.
He pulled into the median and parked his truck in front
of the child “because,” he said,” I knew how dangerous this highway was.”
As he contemplated what to do next, two women came
running down the road. One woman was out of breath. She was the child’s mother.
The other woman came as a witness to the scene.
“I was running down the highway as fast as I could,” the
mother said, “but thank God witnesses seen and got to him before I could.”
“The man that seen what happened pulled off on the side
of the road and got to my baby. Then I got to my baby a little after.”
Copp said he has never been in that kind of situation before,
but he just knew he had to act fast for the child. He said that he stayed with
them as long as possible to make sure “everything was under control.”
Many people have congratulated Copp on his actions.
“I can’t help but appreciate the kind words everyone is
giving me,” he said, “but I just feel like I did what any good human would
do.”
Yes, young man, the operative word here is “good”.
